John Baldessari, William Wegman, Catherine Opie, Danh Vo, and Ed Ruscha, are just a few of the artists contributing to this year’s “Postcards from the Edge,” an annual benefit for Visual AIDS at which guests get to walk home with an original postcard-sized work of art by an established or emerging artist. The event, which is being held at Luhring Augustine, kicks off Friday night, January 24, with a preview party and runs through Sunday.
Over 1,50o artists contributed works, which are all up for grabs for $85 a pop (however, if you buy four on Saturday, you get the fifth one on the house, buy three on Sunday, get the fourth one on the house). The catch is, they’re all displayed anonymously. So if you have your mind set on taking home a Kiki Smith, be advised, it’s harder than you think to spot your favorite artist. But that’s the fun. Buy what you love and rest assured that most importantly whatever you spend is going toward a very good cause. It’s a kind of roulette where everyone wins.
Below are a few examples of the work you’ll see this weekend. And if you can’t wait to bid, get a head start with the corresponding auction at Paddle8 with works by Glenn Ligon, Joanne Greenbaum, and Will Barnet.
